Successful final conference held in Palencia

On May 17, 2017, LIFE Operation CO2 held its closing event on the Campus of Yutera, University of Valladolid’s Technical School of Agrarian Engineering.


The conference promoted the debate on demonstrating the feasibility of forestry and and agroforestry for carbón sequestration in Europe. More than 100 people attended the event, including project partners, university students agri-food technicians and representatives of the press.

Special guests were invited to discuss options of the strengthening policies on climate change mitigation within agroforesty.


The conference’s agenda was divided in three blocks (programme):

The first block presents the results obtained during the project, as well as the obtained conclusions and future outlook.

  • Project’s objectives and actions (Sven Kallen, Transfer Consultancy)
  • Monitoring and surveilling by new technologies (Luis Fernando Sánchez Sastre & Salvador Hernández Navarro, UVa)
  • Area A: Muntanya d'Aliny'a – conservation, forest management and carbón sequestration (Xavier Escuté, Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera & Ronald Poppens, FSG)
  • Area B & C: Ayoó de Vidriales and San Mateo de Gállego – agroforestry practices (Kathy Franco, Transfer Consultancy)
  • Soil recovery by mycorrhization and the site’s economic potential (Jaime Olaizola, ID Forest)

Within the second block two round tables were held:

  • "Policies for Mitigating Climate Change in Agroforestry" with Marta Hernández Navarro (OECC) and Jorge Llorente Cachorro, Juan Carlos Dolado Soria and Oscar Ramírez from Palacio (Junta de Castilla and León)
  • "Networking event – experiences and impacts of LIFE and Horizon2020 projects" and the presentation of POSTERS:

The third block involved a visit to the experimental field at Soto de Cerrato included a presentation of experiments carried out.
