Fieldwork at Mountain Alinyà

Last October, members of the E.T.S.II.AA of Palencia (University of Valladolid) and Fundaciò Catalunya - La Pedrera conducted fieldwork in the framework of the LtHP (Low to High Productivity-Productive Forest) in the area known as Obaga of Colldéu in Mountain Alinyà (Zone A of the project).

It is an area of about 23 ha of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) on a north facing hillside with a high occupation of boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) and Phoenicean Juniper (Juniperus phoenicia), which virtually prevent natural regeneration of the pine forest.

The work consisted in recognizing the status of the mass on the ground and collecting in situ information required to carry out simulations of its evolution over time.

In this way, the information provided by the inventory conducted by the Foundation in 2013 was expanded, and two more plots of inventory with their relevant measurement parameters were added. Soil and litterfall samples were also collected and core diameters were extracted to calculate the average age of the forest.
